About My Golden Repair
The program is based on the concept of Kintsugi - the Japanese art of repairing broken ceramics using lacquer mixed with gold, silver, or platinum. If first discovered Kintsugi while living in Japan in the 1980s. The idea is that things that have been broken and repaired become one of a kind works of art that are as uniquely beautiful as they are functional. As of course, as someone who has spent a great deal of my life healing my broken parts I found this concept both inspiring and comforting.
Fast forward to 2008 when I began writing a series of chapter books under the title CritterKin (animal family) for kids between the ages of 8 and 12. The books feature a mixed breed pack of dogs and the challenges they face in their search for forever homes. Each book features one dog and one challenge, such as bullying, looking or feeling different, and being differently abled.
It was while doing an author visit with a group of 3rd and 4th graders that I discovered that the kids really believed they were supposed to be perfect. You can learn more about the book and programs that came out of of that visit by clicking here: https://www.dreamingwideawake.org/kids.

My Golden Repair is an adult version of that kids' program. It's for those who are working on uncovering and repairing parts of themselves that were broken. It is a both a chance to get to know other remarkable writers and a way to build a community of like minded and supportive people.
