The Three Amigos - Who Are They?
Welcome to the Three Amigos - the tale of how a trio of intrepid donkeys escape the circus and embark on an exciting, cross-country adventure. Their first chapter of their story launched Friday, July 3rd and follows their antics as they avoid capture, visit friends living at rescues and in the wild, and help raise awareness and funds to save and protect donkeys.

Beauford, Benjamin, and Brown Sugar Betty are the main characters in the Three Amigos story. That story combines factual information about donkeys with a fun, fast-paced tale of donkey shenanigans.
Beauford the Bard (Beau for short)
Beauford the Bard (Beau for short) is a middle-aged, Mammoth donkey (Jack) who spent most of his life carrying camping supplies up and down mountain trails for a wilderness outfitter. It was while listening to songs sung around campfires on those trips that he fell in love with rhythm and rhyme. Soon he was thinking and speaking to other donkeys in verse.
Benjamin the Diviner (Benny for short)
A young, standard-sized donkey (Jack) with a knack for finding water, Benny was born into the Begging Burros herd at Custer State Park He was known for being able to locate underground sources of water and the ability to dig holes (some up to six feet deep) to reach it. When the park held its yearly silent auction, Benny was sold to Stephen - a retired hydrogeologist whose hobby was studying how water creates and shapes rock formations.
Brown Sugar Betty the Snuggler (Betty for short)
An elderly miniature donkey (Jenny), Betty is only 32 inches tall. Orphaned as a foal, she was raised by Mabel and her family on their small farm in rural NC. There, Betty had four dogs, a retired draft horse named Mitch, and a flock of chickens to keep her company. Once grown, Betty was trained as a therapy donkey. She spent the next 15 years of her life traveling with Mabel to retirement homes where she visited with the residents - resting her head on their shoulders and nuzzling their cheeks with her soft whiskery nose.
